Luca de Meo, a 30-year veteran of the automotive world, is taking the wheel at Kering 🚗💼
Kering has officially named Luca de Meo—formerly the CEO of Renault and president of the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association—as its next CEO. The transition will be finalized on September 15, pending approval at a shareholder meeting on September 9.
De Meo brings decades of experience from big names like Renault, Toyota Europe, Fiat, Volkswagen, and Audi. His most recent work at Renault included spearheading zero-emission vehicles and smart automotive tech through Ampere.
🧠 Why it matters: This leadership change signals a major strategic pivot for Kering as the luxury conglomerate struggles to lift underperforming brands like Gucci, even while jewelry houses like Boucheron and Pomellato thrive.
The outgoing CEO, François-Henri Pinault, who led Kering for nearly two decades, will remain as Chairman of the Board. Pinault said he began rethinking the company’s governance in 2023 and handpicked De Meo to lead Kering into a new chapter.
💬 Pinault’s statement: “His sharp understanding of brands and strong corporate culture convinced me he’s the right leader.”
💬 De Meo’s response: “I'm taking this on with enthusiasm and confidence. Together we’ll make Kering essential in the luxury world.”
As Kering enters this transformative phase, the industry will be watching how an automotive expert navigates a high-fashion empire.
