VD Global, a De Beers sightholder, has launched a new five-step framework to deliver verified diamond traceability.
The TRACE5 framework is designed for rough and polished diamonds to help jewellers document origin and build consumer confidence.
TRACE5 combines advanced scanning, secure cloud, and blockchain-backed records, and third-party validation to meet the standards of traceability.
The five-step framework is as follows:
Track — Source & Audit. Documented origin at intake, carat weight reconciliation, and certification checks (including Kimberley Process) establish an auditable starting point.
Register — Identity & Time-Stamp. Each rough stone receives a unique identity and an independent, time-stamped record on an auditable cloud infrastructure.
Assess — Map & Plan. Advanced scanning creates a technical reference and locked manufacturing plan to guide downstream processes.
Craft — Controlled Manufacturing. The stone’s unique ID is maintained throughout cutting and polishing, with quality control recorded at each stage.
Ensure — Independent Verification & Publication. Final verification is performed independently, with provenance records published to Sarine Diamond Journey and De Beers Tracr.
Users can keep a secure digital profile, backed by cloud and blockchain technology, through TRACE5.
This ensures reliable verification without disclosing sensitive process details.
VD Global is hoping the framework will enable luxury maisons to gain auditable provenance, be able to tell the stories of their pieces more easily, and future-proof their operations.
Bhavya Vaghasia, head of luxury at VD Global, said: “TRACE5 is our promise of trust — a transparent, verifiable framework that strengthens confidence across the luxury value chain.
“For maisons, provenance is no longer optional. It is central to consumer trust and future-proofing their collections.”
