In the realm of perfect-for-me rings, it doesn’t get better than the Flora Nomad ring from Claudia Mae.
A close complement to my engagement ring (custom-created by Single Stone), this wonderfully chunky gold piece is a party of sapphires, moonstones, and diamonds that feels like the most gorgeous garden you’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting.
Nomad is a signature of Claudia Mae, the brand conceived by Claudia Kronfeld: In 2020, the designer used the money from a work bonus on materials to create five of the rings, and with them, she officially found her calling. Flash-forward to June 2025, and her Flora line, which includes some Nomad styles, made its debut to fabulous reviews at the Couture show in Las Vegas.
“This collection has been quite technically ambitious. I designed the first piece about four years ago, before I knew enough about jewelry production to know how challenging this concept would be,” Kronfeld tells JCK via email. “The wildflower designs are composed of cabochon cuts as small as 1 to 1.5 mm—which are incredibly hard to find and quite expensive, whether hand- or machine-cut—that must be burnish-set extremely close together, and cleanly, to form the wildflower design.
“We really pushed the boundaries of what is typically seen in burnish-set gemstones,” she adds. “It took years of experimentation with different setters to find the skill set needed for this kind of work. All of that trial and error led us to work exclusively with master setter Lamine Fikai, who trained at L’École de Bijouterie et Joaillerie and previously worked for iconic houses like Henry Dunay and Harry Winston.”
In the Flora rings, Claudia Mae combines beautiful gemstone-crafted florals with bold, modern gold, for an irresistible concoction that is both fresh and instantly heirloom.
“Flora is my take on flowers in jewelry, which is an age-old motif explored for centuries across countless cultures and design styles,” Kronfeld says. “This collection sort of grew naturally from my Fauna collection, which celebrates the animals that shaped my childhood—horses, cats, butterflies—all the beloved beings I grew up around.
“If Fauna represents those creatures, then Flora is the dreamlike, untamed world they inhabit. A place full of color, texture, and beauty.”
