Gem Legacy, the nonprofit dedicated to supporting East African artisanal gem mining communities, has named Bernadette Mack as its new executive director.
💼 Mack previously led the Women’s Jewelry Association and founded a nonprofit consultancy. She brings a wealth of experience in strategic planning, fundraising, and organizational development.
🇹🇿 One of her first initiatives? Overseeing the launch of Gem Legacy’s inaugural campus in Tanzania, a major step toward empowering local communities through education and outreach.
🤝 She’ll work closely with mission directors Rachel Dery Merisheki and Bjorn Merisheki, continuing the legacy started by Rachel’s family.
💬 “Bernadette brings the right balance of heart, strategy, and industry insight,” said board member Monica Stephenson. “Her leadership will allow Gem Legacy to scale its impact while staying rooted in its mission.”
