Paris is where haute couture and high jewelry meet, and pearls are now leading the charge. From multi-strand noble elegance to ultra-modern punk twists, pearls have become the must-have gem for luxury jewelry. At the 2024 Haute Joaillerie Show, top brands like Boucheron, Buccellati, Chaumet, Messika, and Pomellato unveiled breathtaking collections—but it was the stunning pieces from two Japanese pearl giants, Tasaki and Mikimoto, that stole the spotlight.
Mikimoto’s Captivating Pearl Elegance
Inspired by iconic ribbon motifs, Mikimoto launched its latest high jewelry collection, "The Bows," at the renowned Hotel d'Évreux in Place Vendôme. The collection celebrates the delicate elegance of bows and ribbons, blending perfectly with haute couture aesthetics.
Flaviene Barbier, Mikimoto's General Manager, highlighted the brand's meticulous craftsmanship and the exceptional quality of their pearls. "We keep only the most beautiful pearls—less than 10% of our total harvest," Barbier revealed. About 30 designers from Tokyo collaborated on "The Bows," drawing inspiration from Mikimoto's historic Art Deco illustrations to create a fresh, modern take on pearl jewelry.
Tasaki Celebrates a New Era of Pearls
Marking its 70th anniversary in 2024, Tasaki unveiled a new chapter in its high jewelry series, "Ritz Paris by Tasaki." Featuring 13 exquisite pieces, the collection pays homage to the legendary Ritz Paris and its 125-year history.
Inspired by the lavish balls hosted by César Ritz, the "Lumineux" piece radiates grandeur, while "Scintillement" draws inspiration from the hotel's iconic curved staircase. Other notable creations like "Unisson" and "Harmonie" pay tribute to the creative spirit that shaped Parisian fashion a century ago, honoring iconic guests such as Nancy Cunard, Marchesa Luisa Casati, and Barbara Hutton.
