“Internationally known as ‘Fei Cui,’ an umbrella term for pyroxene jades comprised primarily of jadeite, omphacite, kosmochlor, or any combination thereof.”

Because the boundaries between these minerals are complex—think of it like a jade smoothie 🥤—and calling them all “jadeite” doesn’t do justice to their unique mineral identities.
Mason-Kay joins global gem giants like GIA and Lotus Gemology in pushing for clarity and consistency in jade naming. They’re saying 💬:
“By including this terminology in our Jadeite Authenticity Reports, we stand with the global gemological community in advocating for clarity, consistency, and respect for the mineralogical diversity within the jadeite family.”
This move also helps prevent underappreciation (or shady marketing 😬) of stones like omphacite jade.
