How I Got Here: Edie Zhang on Founding Aurora Fine Jewelry

In Edie Zhang’s professional journey, she only had one major career shift before diving into the jewelry world: transitioning from commercial real estate to senior financial services. Yet, throughout her distinguished career in this sector, her long-standing passion for heirloom-quality jewelry constantly tugged at her heartstrings, encouraging her to follow her artistic dreams.

The Moment of Inspiration

It wasn’t until Edie celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary with a family trip to Alaska to witness the Northern Lights that she finally made the decision to create her jewelry brand. The dazzling display of the aurora borealis—magical, otherworldly, and eternal—left an indelible mark on her. The natural spectacle, combined with the silent awe of her mother and the joyful excitement of her daughter, inspired her to create Aurora Fine Jewelry, a brand focused on crafting timeless, high-end jewelry that could be passed down through generations.

Edie envisioned a line of jewelry that encapsulated the dreams of her youth, the emotions of the present, and the anticipation of the future, all shaped into brilliant, sparkling pieces. She wanted to create heirlooms that would carry the family legacy—just as the cherished jewelry from her childhood was passed down to her children.

A Financial Background Meets Creativity

As a senior professional in the financial services sector, Edie had come to understand that a family’s wealth should be about more than just material assets—it should be about passing down the family’s spirit, values, and legacy. She wanted her pieces to symbolize love, strength, and heritage, so that future generations could wear these creations as tokens of their family history, drawing strength and inspiration from them as they moved through life.

Although she had studied design and painting from an early age, starting her own brand from scratch was a new challenge. After returning to China, Edie immersed herself in learning everything she could about jewelry design and craftsmanship. She began designing and creating her own pieces but found herself limited by the constraints and controversies surrounding natural diamonds. It wasn’t until she discovered lab-grown diamonds that she truly unlocked her creative potential.

The Power of Lab-Grown Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds offered Edie the flexibility to bring her wildest design visions to life. With the ability to use larger stones, unique shapes, and colorful hues, she was able to fully embrace the concept of the aurora borealis as a central theme for Aurora Fine Jewelry. What she couldn’t achieve with natural diamonds was now possible with lab-grown ones—authentic diamonds certified by respected grading institutions.

Lab-grown diamonds not only gave Edie the creative freedom to design with fewer limitations, but they also aligned perfectly with her values of sustainability, environmental responsibility, and ethical sourcing. These diamonds, with their flawless "Hearts and Arrows" fluorescence, allowed her to craft jewelry that was both stunning and meaningful.

Aurora Fine Jewelry: A Brand with a Vision

Through Aurora Fine Jewelry, Edie has realized her dream of creating pieces that can be treasured as heirlooms—works of art that will resonate with their wearers and be passed down through generations. The aurora borealis symbolizes a magical connection between the past, present, and future, which perfectly aligns with the vision Edie had for her brand.

Edie Zhang and Aurora Fine Jewelry are the first certified jewelry designer and brand in China to be recognized by the AIDI International Smart Diamond Association. With the support of ebooom.com, a leading global jewelry supply chain service provider, Edie is poised to bring China’s lab-grown diamond products and jewelry designs to the global stage.
