Less than four years after launching as a bold collective for female designers, Cast has unexpectedly shuttered its three stores, taken down its website, and held a fire sale that shocked fans and industry insiders alike.
But it’s not the end—cofounder Rachel Skelly has “reacquired” the brand’s intellectual property and is already teasing a rebirth. “I’m not done!” she declared in an Instagram video, vowing to “recast Cast” when the moment feels right.
Skelly cited “headwinds” faced by many early-stage brands as the reason for the closure, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of today’s market. Her farewell message was emotional, as she packed up the final store in Palo Alto, California.
She’s now channeling her heartbreak into hope, promising a future with “fresh creative energy” and a new chapter for Cast. Skelly, who formerly served as VP of creative at Olly and Plum Organics, founded Cast in 2021 with serial entrepreneur Eric Ryan to “bring more warmth and wonder to fine jewelry.”
Known for artistic collaborations with names like Issa Rae, Eva Mendes, and Windy Chien, Cast had carved out a niche with its “everyday standouts” and inclusive design ethos. Despite a final sale offering 80% off, loyal followers are still watching closely—eager to see what happens next.
