Birmingham’s annual heritage week next month will be featuring several events that spotlight the city’s jewellery quarter.
The 10-day long occasion will feature over 200 events, with many set to be hosted in the Jewellery Quarter to bring attention to the area.
This comes shortly after Birmingham was given World Craft City status for its contributions to the jewellery trade, joining just eight cities in all of Europe awarded the title by the World Crafts Council.
During Birmingham Heritage Week, the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter and JW Evans Silver Factory will be open to the public.
Walking tours will also be offered around the Jewellery Quarter, spotlighting the city’s iconic jewellery spots.
Speaking on the annual tradition, Heritage Week co-ordinator Irene De Boo told the BBC: “Every year, we’re amazed by the public’s enthusiasm for exploring Birmingham’s past – and this year’s programme is our biggest yet.
“I feel very strongly that heritage in Birmingham is overlooked. There are lots of festivals in Birmingham and they are often art and culture related, music, food but Birmingham has a very rich heritage and a lot of people don’t think it has.
“Birmingham as a city has a really interesting history and a lot of physical evidence is still there and what Heritage Week does is it opens places up and neighbourhoods to explore.”
Birmingham Heritage Week will take place from 12-21 September in multiple locations across the city.
