Aryna Sabalenkas US Open Earrings Hold Secret Meaning

· Discovery

Aryna Sabalenka has been competing in the 2025 U.S. Open in the same three pieces of jewelry from Material Good: dangling diamond earrings, a tourmaline pendant, and a diamond choker. “Jewelry is really one of my biggest guilty pleasures,” she said ahead of the tournament.

The design of each piece of jewelry that Sabalenka has worn this U.S. Open has a deeper significance: They are all a nod to her eighth time competing in the tournament. “Every custom Material Good piece designed for Aryna carries the number eight,” the brand notes. “Her choker balances eight stones-seven pear-shaped diamonds and one imperial topaz, chosen to echo her custom Nike look. A cushion-cut tourmaline is set in eight prongs, while handcrafted detachable earrings feature eight diamonds in each drop.”

Sabalenka celebrates following her U.S. Open semifinal victory.

“We designed pieces that balance performance and bold style,” Katherine Lev, head of design at Material Good, said. “Inspired by her custom Nike uniform, we sourced a rare 10.72ct pink-orange tourmaline for a striking pendant, paired with a diamond choker of eight stones—a nod to this milestone. Convertible pear-shaped diamond earrings complete the look, shifting from the court to celebration.”

Sabalenka made her U.S. Open debut in 2018, where she lost in the fourth round. She made it to the finals in 2023, where she lost, and won her first U.S. Open title last year, in 2024. This will be her third straight U.S. Open finals.

“I really love to switch up my jewelry,” she told Betches. “I usually design something custom for each Slam so that it matches my outfit and makes me feel put together when I’m on court.”
