Industry veteran Isidore Mörsel has been reappointed as Chairman of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC). With a legacy spanning three generations, Mörsel, who is also CEO of Dali Diamond Co, returns to lead AWDC through one of the most pivotal times in the diamond industry.
Mörsel succeeds David Gotlib, who stepped down in September last year. Alongside Mörsel, diamond manufacturer Rosy Blue’s Ravi Bhansali joins AWDC’s board for the first time as the new Vice Chairman, representing the younger generation of diamond traders poised to take on leadership roles.
Can New Leadership Transform the Diamond Industry Amid Major Challenges?
According to AWDC, Mörsel and Bhansali are taking on the challenge with passion, fully aware that the diamond industry—including Antwerp—is undergoing major changes while facing significant obstacles.
Both leaders are advocating for the establishment of multiple rough diamond inspection hubs across G7 countries, as well as in diamond-producing nations, to ensure that ethical and sustainable trade standards are met.
A Bold New Vision to Unite the Diamond World
AWDC officials have emphasized that this new approach is not only practical but also fair. It aims to unite all stakeholders in the diamond supply chain and share responsibilities more equitably. The goal is to help major diamond-producing and exporting countries in Africa achieve seamless integration, ensuring that diamonds are traded ethically and sustainably.
Will this new leadership be able to navigate the challenges ahead and redefine the global diamond trade? Only time will tell, but Mörsel and Bhansali are certainly ready for the task.
