State-owned diamond miner Endiama financed the construction of a university campus in the province of Lunda-Norte, Angola, which launched last week.
The company invested over $69 million in the facility, Endiama said. The university’s two faculties, law and economics, can accommodate 2,906 students in each of three daily shifts. The campus includes two computer rooms, a library, a cafeteria and two sports courts, and is accessible to students with limited mobility. It has a total of 87 classrooms.
“This initiative reflects the government’s strategic commitment to education as a driver of sustainable development and a demonstration of the sector’s dedication to social transformation,” said Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas Diamantino Azevedo.
“The company’s goal is to transform people’s lives for the benefit of all,” added Ganga Júnior, chairman of Endiama’s board of directors.
Angola president João Lourenço officiated at last week’s opening ceremony.
