Elisa Gilbert
Elisa Gilbert made a profound career transition from a successful lawyer with over 30 years of experience to a jewelry designer to honor her family’s legacy. After her father’s passing, she chose to preserve generations of craftsmanship by founding Vivienne Charles in January 2020—a brand named in tribute to her parents. Her decision reflects a deep commitment to continuing a heritage of metalworking and gem setting that spans four generations.

Gilbert’s designs are deeply rooted in nature and family history. Her debut collection, "Birds, Bees, and Things from the Sea," features sculptural, handcrafted pieces that immortalize small creatures like bees, frogs, and crickets. Using fine materials such as 14k gold, rubies, emeralds, and moonstones, she creates jewelry that is both whimsical and timeless. Each piece tells a story, blending artistry with the technical discipline she learned alongside her father and grandfather.
Growing up in a family of watchmakers, silversmiths, and jewelers, Gilbert spent much of her childhood in the family’s New York studio, known as “The Place.” Now, she works from a serene studio in Tuxedo Park, NY—housed in a Balinese tea house overlooking a lake, with a treehouse lapidary workshop and a greenhouse polishing lab. For Gilbert, jewelry is more than adornment; it is a distilled legacy, a tangible chronicle of the dreamers and makers who came before her.
