A remarkable unmounted 30.1-carat round brilliant-cut light pink diamond, graded VVS2 for clarity, is the star attraction of Bonhams’ Hong Kong Jewels and Jadeite Auction scheduled for November 28. The diamond is projected to fetch between $1.5 million and $2.3 million (approximately HK$12 million–HK$18 million).
Sourced from the private collection of a distinguished Asian collector who has owned the gem for over 50 years, the diamond is classified as Type IIa. This category signifies exceptional purity, as such stones contain minimal to no nitrogen, exhibit few inclusions, and are renowned for their uniform coloration, according to Bonhams.
Stewart Young, director of jewelry at Bonhams, expressed enthusiasm about the auction, stating, “This extraordinary colored diamond offers collectors a rare chance to acquire a truly coveted gemstone.”
A Showcase of Fine Jewelry
Coinciding with the grand opening of Bonhams Asia's new headquarters, the live auction will also feature an array of exceptional pieces. Highlights include a Kat Florence necklace showcasing a 126.25-carat Mozambique paraiba-type tourmaline complemented by 16.28 carats of brilliant-cut diamonds. This piece is estimated to sell for $190,000–$320,000 (HK$1.5 million–HK$2.5 million).
Other standout items include jewelry from prestigious brands such as Bulgari, Cartier, and David Webb, alongside an impressive collection of gemstones, including rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and spinels. Notable mentions include pink sapphire earrings and cobalt blue and pink spinels.
