Hancocks London has unveiled an extraordinary piece of jewelry that brings Greek mythology to life—an 1830s necklace adorned with intricately carved onyx cameos of the Olympian gods. This one-of-a-kind necklace is now available for purchase at their St. James’s Street flagship store and online for a hefty price tag of £55,000 (approximately $69,000).
This stunning necklace is a tribute to the 19th-century fascination with Greek mythology, where wearing an image of a god was believed to bring blessings and elevate one's social status. The necklace features 12 Olympian gods, each cameo set in 18k yellow gold and spaced with turquoise cabochons for added color and richness.
The centerpiece of the necklace is Zeus, surrounded by cameos of Demeter, Hestia, Apollo, and Poseidon. Other gods like Ares, Artemis (who cleverly conceals the clasp), Athena, Hephaestus, Hermes, Hera, and Aphrodite complete the pantheon.
Hancocks’ creative director, Amy Burton, describes this necklace as “more than an accessory—it is a tangible narrative of ancient myth, a wearable work of art that invites the wearer to embody the grandeur and mystery of the Greek gods.” With its thoughtful craftsmanship and mythological references, this piece is not only an artistic marvel but a true collector’s treasure.
