🌱SRK’s Natural Diamonds Are Now Carbon-Negative

Ahmedabad, India—India-based diamond manufacturer Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK) has announced a new milestone in its decades-long commitment to sustainability.

The company’s diamond-making process is now climate-positive, meaning SRK has achieved negative carbon footprint per carat.

According to the World Economic Forum, a carbon-negative designation requires a company to remove more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it emits.

SRK said it is the first company in the global diamond industry to achieve this.

In the past year, it has reduced its carbon footprint by more than 112 percent per carat.

SRK has, in that time, recorded emissions of negative 0.239 kg CO₂e per carat of natural diamond.

On average, 160 kg of greenhouse gases are released per polished carat of mined diamond, according to a 2019 report for the Diamond Producers Association, which became the Natural Diamond Council in 2020.

Across SRK’s full operations, the total emissions organizational carbon footprint has dropped to negative 893 MTCO2e (metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent), it said.

“At SRK, we have always believed that true luxury isn’t just about what you create—it is about what you contribute, what you give back,” said Shreyans Dholakia, entrepreneur and brand custodian at SRK.

“Achieving diamond crafting with negative carbon footprints is not just a milestone for us, but a message to the world: beauty and responsibility can, and must, go hand in hand.”

SRK said its data has been independently verified and validated by ISO certification body Deutsch Quality Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd., ensuring compliance with international standards.

SRK announced the achievement on World Decarbonization Day, celebrated annually on June 25.

To mark the milestone, the company released the second edition of its Pure Impact Report, a summary of its environmental and sustainability efforts.

The report explains SRK’s approach to renewable energy, waste reduction, water recycling, and ethical sourcing.

SRK said its solar-powered infrastructure and net-zero energy-certified buildings are proof that luxury can “lead with heart and succeed with purpose.”
