A recent journey to India with Ben Bridge Jeweler unveiled the secrets behind their innovative Bella Ponte collection, a line of customizable engagement rings. Here are five key insights into how this 112-year-old family-run jeweler is redefining custom jewelry design for the modern consumer.

The Bella Ponte collection was born from a desire to make custom jewelry more accessible. According to Lisa Bridge, president of Ben Bridge, the collection was inspired by a conversation about elevating the custom process beyond basic personalization options like metal color or engraving.

The solution was a partnership with Shah Luxury, a Mumbai-based manufacturer specializing in intricate designs, enabling the production of unique pieces in high volumes. “The level of expertise in India is unparalleled,” said Angela Hope, VP of merchandise.

2. Start with a Foundation for Personalization

Recognizing that most customers aren’t comfortable starting from scratch, Bella Ponte offers a selection of base designs. Customers can customize these templates with unique touches, ensuring their jewelry reflects their personal story. This approach makes the process less intimidating while still delivering one-of-a-kind pieces.

3. Leverage Technology to Engage Customers

Since 2018, Ben Bridge has incorporated hologram viewers into its stores. These devices let customers view their designs in 3D from every angle, offering a tangible preview of their custom pieces.

Additionally, customers receive a “My Story” card with a QR code that tracks their ring’s manufacturing journey—similar to tracking an Uber ride. This transparency and engagement add excitement and trust to the process.

4. Push the Limits of Craftsmanship

Ben Bridge and Shah Luxury are willing to go above and beyond to meet customer demands, creating structurally sound, durable designs no matter how complex. For example, one ring required custom-cut baguettes for a hexagonal halo design. The result was a masterpiece that would’ve been impossible without meticulous craftsmanship.

The success of Bella Ponte wouldn’t be possible without Shah Luxury’s flexibility and commitment to producing custom pieces at scale. Unlike most manufacturers, which prioritize batch production, Shah Luxury has perfected a system for creating single, bespoke items efficiently.
