EXCLUSIVE: The Tinder Swindler producer Raw and Amblin Documentaries are teaming on a Netflix doc about one of the world’s most daring diamond heists.
Stolen: Heist of the Century drops on August 8, providing deep insight into an ultimate true-life caper.
The film starts on the morning of February 17 2003, when detectives from Antwerp’s infamous ‘Diamond Squad’ were called to investigate the night-time robbery of an allegedly impregnable vault in the middle of the Belgian city, which is nicknamed the City of Diamonds. It is estimated that between $100M and $500M worth of diamonds were stolen – and have never been found. An ingenious gang of master jewel thieves from Italy, known as ‘The School of Turin’, were eventually revealed to be behind the audacious heist. Raw’s Mark Lewis (Don’t F**k With Cats, Vatican Girl) has written and directed the film, which is based on the book Flawless by Scott Andrew Selby and Greg Campbell.
Stolen is the first time that All3Media-backed Raw and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Documentaries have combined. The pair are making the doc in collaboration with Fremantle-backed Wildside. Raw has made a wealth of hit Netflix docs including The Tinder Swindler and Don’t F**k With Cats. Amblin teamed with Vice Studios on Netflix’s Encounters about alien sightings and also made Life On Our Planet for the streamer.
EPs for Raw are Dimitri Doganis and Jonny Taylor. EPs for Amblin Documentaries are Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. Co-EP is Chiara Messineo. Lorenzo Gangarossa, Scott Selby and Michael Woodlief are also executive producers. Head of Production is Nicky Murphy. Production executive is Sinead Casey. Line producer is Abigail Watts.
