Autore, a leader in modern pearl cultivation, is redefining the industry with cutting-edge research, exquisite jewelry designs, and a commitment to sustainability. Its South Sea pearls, cultivated in pristine waters near Australia and Indonesia, have cemented its reputation globally, attracting clients from Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and the U.S.—including Hollywood A-listers.
Unwavering Demand for South Sea Pearls
Founder Rosario Autore highlights a strong demand for South Sea white pearls in 2023 and the first half of 2024, with their unmatched luster and near-perfect round shapes driving steady price increases.
“The consistent success of our auctions demonstrates the enduring appeal of high-quality South Sea pearls,” Autore notes. Around 90–95% of pearls sold at Autore auctions find buyers despite economic uncertainties, reflecting their robust market demand.
Baroque and Keshi pearls are also seeing a surge in popularity, particularly in markets like Australia and China, as consumers embrace unique shapes and designs.
Production Challenges and Growth
Autore experienced a slight decline in pearl production due to reduced operations during the 2021–2022 pandemic. However, Rosario predicts a rebound by late 2024 and early 2025, supported by increased pearl oyster numbers at their Australian and Indonesian farms. The company cultivates over 350,000 pearls annually across ten farms in locations such as Lombok, Sumbawa, and Western Australia.
To maintain quality, pearls are graded at Autore’s Sydney headquarters before distribution to global jewelers and wholesalers. Buyers can also access these pearls through quarterly auctions in Kobe, Japan, and Hong Kong.
Leading in Sustainability
Sustainability is at the core of Autore’s operations. Certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the company employs eco-conscious practices to minimize environmental impact.
“Healthy, expansive marine environments are essential for producing our beautiful, lustrous pearls,” Rosario explains.
Efforts include limiting commercial fishing, enhancing marine biodiversity, and rebuilding coral reefs. Autore also prioritizes social responsibility by creating jobs and supporting Indigenous communities. Collaborative initiatives, such as an ongoing environmental education program with Indonesia’s JARI Foundation, teach local students about marine conservation.
Jewels Fit for Stars
Established in 2001, Autore’s jewelry division has won numerous international awards and is favored by celebrities like Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie, and Scarlett Johansson. Its pieces have been featured in films and shows like Sex and the City and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Autore’s latest Couture Ophidia collection debuted in early 2024, earning prestigious accolades, including Best High Jewelry at Munich’s Inhorgenta Fair and Best Pearl Jewelry at Las Vegas’ Couture show. Meanwhile, the Butterfly collection, designed by Creative Director Jane Autore, continues to captivate customers, reinforcing Autore’s position as a global pearl jewelry leader.
