Marc Bridge, a fifth-generation jeweler from the Ben Bridge family, is on a mission to transform how jewelry is perceived and experienced. With the launch of At Present in 2020, Bridge created a platform that bridges the gap between jewelry artisans and consumers, making fine jewelry more accessible and less intimidating.
A Bold New Collection
At Present’s latest collaboration with Jalil Johnson, a New York-based stylist, writer, and podcaster, introduces the Bold collection. Inspired by Johnson’s favorite gemstones—blue sapphire, opal, lapis lazuli, and diamond (spelling “BOLD”)—this collection features gender-neutral pieces, including:
- Circle-in-a-square bracelets and rings.
- Earrings and bangles with multi-functional designs, like the Bold bangle ($1,195 in silver), which doubles as a pendant when strung on a satin ribbon.
“Jewelry needs to be less precious,” Bridge says, reflecting his philosophy of making jewelry a celebration of everyday moments, not just milestone occasions.
Empowering Artisans and Consumers
Bridge envisions At Present as a matchmaker between artists and buyers. “Consumers want unique and trustworthy pieces, while artisans often struggle to find manufacturers or connect with the right audience,” he explains. By handling the logistical challenges—like manufacturing and marketing—At Present allows artisans to focus on their craft.
The Acrostic Approach
The Bold collection incorporates acrostic jewelry, where gemstones symbolize specific letters or messages. Johnson championed this storytelling technique, encouraging customers to celebrate personal milestones through jewelry they buy for themselves, not just as gifts.
“Jewelry isn’t about waiting for the perfect life moment,” Bridge says. “It’s about celebrating the now and weaving stories into pieces that reflect personal achievements.”
Launching Bold in Style
At Present debuted the Bold collection in September, introducing it to influencers and fashion media. The early response has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the collection’s playful designs and versatile wearability.
Bridge believes jewelry should hold a larger place in people’s lives. “If you only see jewelry as a gift of love, you miss its true value. It’s about marking life’s important junctions and building stories around those moments.”
