The international nonprofit, Gems Keep Giving, has undergone a major restructuring and leadership change as of September 2024. Founded by the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), this organization supports artisanal gemstone mining and cutting communities worldwide. With a new vision and renewed focus, it aims to drive greater contributions from industry stakeholders, sponsors, and gemstone enthusiasts.
Hayley Henning Steps in as Chair
Industry veteran Hayley Henning has taken over as the new chair of Gems Keep Giving. Henning, who previously served as Chief Commercial Officer at Greenland Ruby and gained recognition for her CSR initiatives, is now tasked with expanding the charity's mission. "We’re broadening our approach to seek more support from stakeholders, companies, foundations, and gemstone lovers," Henning said.
A Strong Board Ready to Make an Impact
The board includes current and former ICA presidents Damien Cody and Clement Sabbagh, as well as industry leaders like Ruth Benjamin-Thomas, Brian Cook, Rocco Gay, Cecilia Gardner, Robert Weldon, and Henry Ho. With their combined experience, Gems Keep Giving aims to overcome the socio-economic and infrastructure challenges faced by artisanal mining communities, providing vital support while upholding the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
"Every contribution helps to maintain the livelihood of mining communities and is tax-deductible where allowed by law," Henning added.
