Color Jewels Bets Big on Luxury Gems—What's Driving the High-End Gemstone Boom in 2025?

Color Jewels Shifts Focus to High-End Gemstones Amid Strong Luxury Demand

Color Jewels, a prominent Hong Kong-based gemstone trader and jeweler, is placing a stronger emphasis on luxury gemstones and contemporary jewelry designs as the market's appetite for refined pieces grows steadily.

Ashish Dangayach, Managing Director of Color Jewels, highlights that premium gemstones remain highly desirable, with ongoing strong demand for classics like Burmese sapphires and rubies and Colombian emeralds, even as newer gemstones such as pink sapphires, Mozambique Paraiba tourmaline, and Mahenge spinel become increasingly popular.

In 2024, Asia and Europe emerged as key growth regions for the company, boosted by growing consumer awareness regarding gemstone certifications, origins, and ethical sourcing. Collectors and dealers showed particularly strong interest, driving prices upward due to increasing demand and tightening supply.

Looking ahead to 2025, Color Jewels plans to significantly expand its inventory of high-end gems to meet growing demand. The company also intends to elevate its jewelry designs, creating more sophisticated and contemporary pieces tailored to luxury buyers in its core markets.

Dangayach expects rising interest in less traditional yet visually striking gems, including pink and padparadscha sapphires, Paraiba tourmaline, and Mahenge spinel. He attributes their popularity to their rarity, unique colors, and increasing integration into modern jewelry collections. Meanwhile, the "Big Three"—rubies, sapphires, and emeralds—will continue to enjoy unwavering popularity due to their timeless appeal.

Amid uncertainty in the diamond market, many buyers are shifting their attention toward colored gemstones, viewing them both as luxury investments and as distinctive jewelry choices. This has boosted demand for certified, high-quality gemstones with clearly documented origins and ethical sourcing practices.

Despite potential economic challenges and political instability that could affect luxury spending, Dangayach remains confident that demand for colored gemstones will remain robust throughout 2025, driven by their inherent beauty and perceived investment value.

The biggest challenge ahead will be addressing the shrinking supply of top-quality gemstones. However, Dangayach sees this as an opportunity to cater to more informed and ethically conscious consumers by offering certified, responsibly sourced gems that match the evolving tastes of today's buyers.
