Last week’s Piece of the Week highlighted trend forecaster Paola De Luca’s “Spectrum Play” and the growing influence of colored gemstones. This week, the spotlight turns to enamel—where color isn’t just an accent but the entire point.
Kwit’s square signet pinky ring takes a classic, monogrammed silhouette and reinvents it with bold enamel colorways. Our featured piece pairs red and azure enamel with 14k yellow gold, but that’s only one of eight options the brand offers. For founder and designer Karla Witukiewicz, the collection redefines what “neutral” jewelry can be.
Witukiewicz studied color theory before launching Kwit, but her true inspiration comes from nature. “My eye is naturally drawn to what Mother Nature does—she does it best,” she said. “I find inspiration in cooking, making flower arrangements, and the farmers market. I’m constantly in awe of the vibrant colors in flowers, fruits, and vegetables—I touch them, pick the most beautiful ones, and let that process guide my color combinations.”
Sometimes, she says, she sets an intention—sporty, whimsical—but she thrives on unexpected pairings that feel alive, harmonious, timeless, and fresh.
The brand’s enamel palettes have resonated. Turquoise-and-maroon and the classic off-white-and-black pairings are currently the most popular. But Kwit is already preparing for the holiday season with three new Aura-inspired shades: “Bond Green Aura,” “Maroon Aura,” and “Midnight Blue Aura.”
The Spark square signet pinky ring in “Maroon Aura” pairs 14k yellow gold with enamel and brilliant-cut diamonds tracing the wearer’s initial ($4,295). The original red-and-azure enamel version retails for $3,695.
“In terms of my enamel colors, the idea is that bold can become neutral,” Witukiewicz said. “Because I’ve worked so carefully with undertones, a color someone is instinctively drawn to typically complements their natural palette, their wardrobe, and even their personality. In that sense, color becomes personal—what feels bold at first can become someone’s signature neutral.”
The Aura collection, which fully debuts in November, builds on that philosophy, positioning enamel not as playful embellishment but as a new language for personal luxury.
But here’s the real question: does enamel’s bold neutrality redefine modern jewelry—or risk sidelining the timeless appeal of gemstones and diamonds, including the rise of lab grown diamonds as the industry’s most disruptive “new neutral”?
