Wilson & Son Jewelers, the more than 120-year-old Scarsdale-based jeweler, has made headlines by donating an Elmasolvex VA watch cleaning machine to the Horological Society of New York (HSNY).
The Elmasolvex VA is no ordinary piece of equipment. Priced at $27,000 new, the professional-grade cleaning machine is known for precision, safety, and efficiency. HSNY says the donation will directly support its workshops and educational programs, giving students and horology enthusiasts hands-on training with industry-standard technology.
“Supporting the Horological Society of New York is an extension of our mission to nurture both appreciation and expertise in fine watchmaking,” said Matthew Wilson, president and co-owner of Wilson & Son Jewelers. “We are proud to contribute to an institution that has done so much to educate, inspire, and preserve horological tradition in New York and beyond.”
Founded in 1866, HSNY is one of the oldest continuously operating horological associations in the world. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, its mission is to advance the art and science of horology through education.
Wilson & Son itself has deep roots: founded in 1905 by Morris Wilson, a watch and clock maker, it remains family-run today under fourth-generation brothers Matthew and Michael Wilson.
The donation highlights Wilson & Son’s commitment to preserving craftsmanship and education—but it also raises the question: is this purely an act of philanthropy, or a strategic branding move in a luxury market that thrives on heritage storytelling?
