    JannPaul, founded in 2009 by Jann Tan, Casey Lai, and Paul Hung, aims to bring transparency and quality to the jewelry industry. Known for their “education-first” approach, JannPaul places an emphasis on educating their customers through in-person appointments and showcasing diamond quality tools such as ASET scopes and Ideal scopes.

     

    The Experience

    JannPaul offers a unique in-store experience focused on education, making it ideal for customers unfamiliar with diamond quality. They guide buyers through multiple appointments, using specialized tools to evaluate diamonds and provide detailed information on their purchases. However, without proper guidance, these tools can be overwhelming, so the salesperson's ability to explain the data is crucial.

    The company’s minimalist branding and in-depth consultations have attracted millennial customers, making them a standout in Singapore’s jewelry market. While this approach is beneficial in-store, it remains to be seen how well it translates online, as much of their e-commerce platform is still under construction.

     

    Diamond Quality

    JannPaul focuses on ideal and super-ideal cut diamonds, aiming for diamonds that exceed GIA or AGS Ideal standards. However, they do not provide the same level of transparency about specifications as other brands like Whiteflash, which fully discloses the parameters of their A CUT ABOVE diamonds. This lack of specific details can make it challenging for discerning buyers to compare JannPaul’s super-ideal diamonds with other leading collections.

     

    Lab Diamonds

    JannPaul also offers a range of lab-grown diamonds, known as their “White Series.” These diamonds are grown using slow growth methods, ensuring the absence of Stria and other undesirable hues. They are exclusively Type IIa diamonds, which are considered the purest form. However, the absence of IGI certification for lab-grown diamonds may be a drawback for some buyers.

     

    Pricing

    JannPaul’s diamonds are generally on the higher end of the price scale, and the lack of online pricing transparency means potential customers cannot easily compare options. While the personalized approach to selecting diamonds may benefit some buyers, others may find it limiting compared to online platforms that offer extensive inventories and competitive prices.

     

    Final Thoughts

    JannPaul offers a refreshing in-store experience for those looking to learn about diamonds and receive personalized service. However, their limited online presence, lack of detailed specifications for super-ideal cuts, and higher pricing make it difficult to recommend them over established brands like Whiteflash or James Allen, which offer transparency, superior diamond standards, and better value.
