As the global diamond market slows down, Surat—the world’s diamond polishing capital—is making a major move to reclaim its edge.
The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has officially launched a Diamond Task Force (DTF) to breathe new life into the region’s gem and jewelry industry.

- Improve industry capabilities

- Launching short-term training in cutting, polishing, jewelry design, gemology
- Boosting lab-grown diamond production and exports
- Exploring new international markets
- Facilitating import/export logistics
- Supporting delegations to global mining hubs
📅 SGCCI will host at least 10 major events this year, including:
- International jewelry exhibitions
- Buyer-seller meets
- Fashion showcases
- Roadshows across global markets
- Award ceremonies to recognize industry excellence
🌍 With Surat already known for high-precision jewelry and low material waste, the DTF wants to push it further—positioning the city as a sustainable global leader in both natural and lab-grown diamond craftsmanship.
The launch brought together heavyweights from:
- Surat Diamond Association (SDA)
- Lab-Grown Diamond Association (LGDA)
- Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)
- Surat Diamond Bourse
- Local manufacturers and bullion associations
